The Leadership Movement was at Avalon Church to host the Friends Helping Friends Volunteer Rally. For those of you who are new to The Leadership Movement or to Friends Helping Friends… Here is the short version. The Friends Helping Friends project is a Non-Profit organization whose goal is to raise awareness and funds for Childhood Cancer.

The event was particularly special for Christina and I as it was hosted at our home church, Avalon.

The evening started a bit late as the traffic on I-75 was delaying many of our guests, including a couple of people who were to be a part of the event. When we finally got started we had a wonderful crowd that seemed quite happy to be in out of the cold for an hour.

WSB TV was filming the event for part of a special that they are doing on the two girls who were the inspiration behind the Friends Helping Friends project. Everyone seemed quite excited to be a part of the process, and no one seemed to be bothered by the many cameras that were moving about the auditorium.

To make a long story short, the evening was a great success. There were two really high points (as I saw it) of the night (besides me and Christina!). The first was when Tim Kohl of Epic Bicycles along with Southern Crescent Cycling (we call them the bike club) rode out onto the stage and presented our young stars, Terry, Erin, Faith, and Arianna, with brand new bikes. The kids were thrilled and the crowd was moved to tears.

The second, and perhaps even more memorable moment, was when young Arianna sang and impromptu version of a song that she had written. She really got into it and so did the rest of us. It was really special and I think it made an impact on the people that were blessed to be able to see it. Way to go, girl!

The night ended with an exciting announcement from Pastor Ritchie Miller of Avalon. He shared his vision for Hope For Henry, a new ministry of Avalon. He detailed some of the plans that are already in the works that will have a profound impact on our community and the surrounding areas. God is doing some great things in Henry County and The Leadership Movement is proud to play a small role. Christina and I, in addition to our continued work with Friends Helping Friends, will be serving with Ritchie and the staff at Avalon in the Hope For Henry project.

Check back to find out more about these projects. You can also visit Ritchie’s blog by <a href="http://www.ritchiemiller.org"target="_blank">clicking here.

Thanks and have a great weekend.

Donny

Tony Campolo & Mark Lowry

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_F1LZ27GF4vc/RpbfudJ3pFI/AAAAAAAAABE/bC-na7g8lYM/s200/marklowry.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5086498818354553938" />Hey, this post is from the Project Breakthrough Blog. I wanted you guys to see it in case you haven't made it over to the Breakthrough site yet...

Last week our good friends Tony Campolo and Mark Lowry were in town to film their podcast, Saturdays with Mark and Tony.

Tony Campolo is professor emeritus at Eastern University, and is the founder of the Evangelical Association for the Promotion of Education, an organization that develops schools and social programs in various third world countries and in cities across North America. He is the author of 34 books, his most recent two being, "Letters to a Young Evangelical" and "The God of Intimacy and Action."

Mark Lowry is the wonderful comedian known for his work with the popular Gaither Homecoming "family." Mark is also recognized for having written the mega-popular Christmas song, "Mary Did You Know?"

They came into town on Friday and stayed through Sunday. On Friday we held a surprise birthday party for Mark at Ray's house. Saturday was the podcast taping and it lasted most of the day. Sunday morning was a special day at our home church, The Village Church. Mark sang a few songs and shared some comedy and Tony Campolo delivered a powerful message.

To view the service online <a href="http://villagechurch.tv/media/sermons/index.html"target="_blank">Click here...

Project Breakthrough

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_F1LZ27GF4vc/RmIZyci64BI/AAAAAAAAAA8/IwHWOwhou_8/s200/withike1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5071644484819410962" />Last week at the Ashford Club in Atlanta, the Project Breakthrough team met with good friend, Ike Reighard.

Ike serves as Chief People Officer of Homebanc in Atlanta, Georgia where he is responsible for the recruitment, training, and organizational development of one of America's Most Admired Companies. Rick and I flew in yesterday morning around 8:00 AM.

Our time in Kansas was great. We arrived on Saturday afternoon and spent most of the day hanging out with our Road Manager, Mike and his wife, Adrienne. Adrienne's dad, Steve, came over later and we all ate dinner and went to the Plaza. Rick was his usual crazy self so we all spent most of the evening laughing.

The concert was on Sunday night and it was a fun night. During the program I was introducing Rick to the crowd and decided at the last minute to have him join me on stage to perform. He handled it like a pro. He shared a couple stories and ended with a hilarious song called "I wish they all could be Southern Baptist Girls." It was awesome and the people loved him. I have a feeling that the church will schedule the Laugh Soul Loud tour with Rick and Bonita as a result of Rick's performance.

Before the concert started I met two beautiful little girls named Mia and Emily. Mia was 3 years old and Emily was about 5 or 6. They were precious and sweet and they really made me miss my girls. During the concert I noticed that Emily was really enjoying the music. Mia fell asleep! Emily helped me draw names for a music giveaway at intermission and she was perfect. I don't think it was intentional but she managed to draw her own name which, of course, got a big laugh from the crowd.

I was able to spend a little time chatting with Emily and her family. Here is a photo of the two of us after the concert.
Check out more photos in my <a href="http://www.donnyhenderson.com/Gallery"target="_blank">photo gallery.

See you next time.

Donny

Headed out

Hello, friends. I am about to begin packing for the weekend. I am flying to Overland Park, Kansas, where I will be singing at the Blue Valley Baptist Church on Sunday night at 6pm. I am looking forward to a great time with my friends out there. My friend, Rick Griffin, is flying over with me so that should make for some interesting and funny stories to tell later. I am hoping to be mentioned in his latest book!

I was flying out of town last week with some friends and the airline lost my bag. It is painful when there is nothing you can do about it. Even as I pack now I am beginning to worry that I might loose another one. I am going to run out of clothes by the end of the summer!

Anyway, If you are in the Kansas City area, come join us on Sunday night. I promise that it will be a lot of fun. I will be doing some of the new songs from my upcoming project (if I can remember all of the words and chords).

Check back on Monday or Tuesday for photos from our trip.

See you then.

Donny

Donny on YouTube

NSAI

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_F1LZ27GF4vc/RgHquz7OOsI/AAAAAAAAAAg/c9kcL7Be_qA/s200/patterry%26donny.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5044571147565152962" /><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_F1LZ27GF4vc/RgHq2z7OOtI/AAAAAAAAAAo/rTbGsdZIjcQ/s200/jeffsilver%26donny.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5044571285004106450" />Last night Bill Turpin, the administrator of Donny Henderson Music BMI, and I were guests at the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) regional chapter meeting in Marietta. Also on the panel was Pat Terry, an incredible songwriter (Help Me Hold On, Travis Tritt) and a pioneer in the world of Christian and Worship Music (The Pat Terry Group). The chapter coordinator is Jeff Silver, an accomplished songwriter (Forget About Love, Mark Wills) and producer.

The evening was quite special and we were able to make some new friends and get caught up with some old ones. There is something magical that happens when a gifted artist plays and sings music that is there own. It is hard to put it into words but when it happens you can feel it. We were blessed to have been able to experience some of that last night.

Here are a couple photos that Bill took for me. The first is Pat Terry and next is Jeff Silver.

Cruise

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_F1LZ27GF4vc/RfmPHs5CsoI/AAAAAAAAAAY/23kBXTruP50/s200/d%26ccruise07.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5042218620290249346" />Hey, guys. Carisa and I just returned home from a great vacation. We spent a week eating, sleeping, and relaxing on a cruise to the Bahamas. Once we have had time to sort through the photos we will be sure to post them in my photo gallery.

Our group consisted of me and Carisa, our friend and pastor, Ray Waters; Author and humorist, Rick Griffin; and our Booking Agent, Michael Goering and his wife Adrienne.

I will admit that it wasn't just a vacation. Ray and Rick used the trip to put the finishing touches on their latest books, and Mike had several meetings with industry leaders. It was a great team building trip and none of us wanted to come home. Back to the real world!!

Check back later for pics from our trip.

Donny

New Website

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_F1LZ27GF4vc/RejO89vuYiI/AAAAAAAAAAM/VlTBiaZwu9c/s200/Donnyweb.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5037503729976107554" />Well, if you are reading this then you have already seen the new website. Here is the press release that our management company sent out earlier this week...

ATLANTA, GA - Metro Artists Management client, Donny Henderson, announces the launch of his new website.

"With fresh ideas for the new year and the up-coming release of his first live album, we decided it was time for Donny to have a new look on the web." Says MIchael Goering of Metro Artists Management. Donny adds, "As a designer myself, I am very particular about the way things look and I think that my friends at Pierce Elliot Designs (pierceelliotdesigns.com) did a great job. I am jazzed about the days ahead and I hope everyone will check out the new website."

The new site features the usual content such as news, biographical information, and photos, as well as an online music store. Just one of the many new features to donnyhenderson.com is the inclusion of Pastor recommendation videos that can be found on the media page. Visitors to the site can also access Donny's Blog, sign up for his free email newsletter, and listen to audio clips.

The look of the new site is built around Quite Simply, Donny's latest recording which is due out sometime this Summer.

Visit Donny Henderson online at http://www.donnyhenderson.com

Season's Bistro

Last night I performed at the Season's Bistro, a great little spot on the south side of Atlanta. Will Turpin (Collective Soul) was the featured artist and I was his suprise "mystery guest."

We had a great time performing and laughing together. The people were great and seemed to like the new songs we shared. Will performed some of the new stuff he had been writing and I enoyed every minute of it. He is a great talent and I always look forward to opportunities to perform with him.

For my part, I played a couple tunes that will be on my new recording, including one that I co-wrote with Will's brother, Michie. Michie, as most of you know, is a great friend and has co-written several songs with me in the past. He was kind enough to join me on stage for "One More Day." I also enjoyed getting to sit in with the great Bill Turpin for a few songs.

There is something about that place, and other places like it, that always makes me feel like my life is, or at least can be, a little bit bigger. There is, I think, something very special about enjoying some music, food, and laughs with people that you love. Make time in your life for nights like that.

Read more about the evening by clicking <a href="http://www.rattz.com/publicportal/Blog/tabid/290/EntryID/17/Default.aspx"target="_blank">here.

Happy Thanksgiving (& more)

Hello, Friends. It has been a while since my last update and with the holidays approaching, I fear that updates will remain few and far between. I do, however, want to let you know what has been going on with both Second Mile and my solo ministry.

When my wife, Carisa, and I began praying about my forming a group we had a certain vision and plan in mind for it. It wasn't a perfect plan but we trusted God to provide the means to complete this dream that He had given us. He has been so faithful to us through the years and we wanted to be faithful to Him with our gifts, talents, time and money. After forming Second Mile we were encouraged by your support and your enthusiasm for our new ministry. God has opened so many doors over the past year and we are grateful. Over the past few months, however, I have become less than enthusiastic about the direction of the ministry of Second Mile. It is not that the group was headed in a “bad” direction, but that it was not operating in a way that was conducive to the kind of ministry I set out to create in the beginning. Carisa and I have spent much time in prayer and have sought advice and counsel from our personal board of advisors. So many of you have prayed with us over these pasts few weeks and months. Some of you that are reading this letter are a part of our advisory board and have witnessed the changes that God is making in our lives and ministry. We have never been more excited about the future. Thank you for your continued prayers and support.

It seems that God is leading in a new and fresh way. While this "new and fresh" direction is exciting, parts of the process can also be exhausting and intimidating. Nevertheless, we have done our best to be good stewards of the ministry that God has given us. With that said, Second Mile will be undergoing some dramatic changes. The first of which is the addition of some new faces. Channing Eleton and Buddy Mullins will no longer be a part of my group, Second Mile. These guys are talented performers and will, I am sure, find a place where they can continue to use their gifts. If we lift up the name of Jesus, people will be drawn to Him. This has been the mission of Second Mile from the beginning, and I am sure that Channing and Buddy will adopt this philosophy in whatever they choose to do next.

Of course, with this transition will come some growing pains. I thank you in advance for your patience. We are not quite yet finished with the selection of our new team members but we hope to make an announcement about that very soon. Our board, along with my publishing administrator, producer, and co-writers are in the process of writing and selecting new material for Second Mile. Additionally, Second Mile will eventually be seeking an alternate form of transportation, as the bus and trailer that we have been traveling in is the property of Channing Eleton's father and will no longer be available to us. As I said, this process can sometimes be tedious but it is our belief that the end result will be well worth the wait. In the mean time please continue to visit Second Mile's MySpace page and join our friends list. We will be making many of our upcoming announcements from that site while our official site is being redesigned. Of course, the official site can still be found at www.secondmileonline.com.

With all of that said, Second Mile, at least for the short term, will not be the main focus of my attention. Carisa and I have several projects in the works and will be focusing most of our efforts on my latest solo project. In October I began pre-production on my latest solo recording. I can't tell you too much about it yet but I think it is going to be something special. I am being told to keep the lid on much of the details about the project for now as some of these details are pending and I don't want to let the “cat out of the bag" too soon! What I can tell you is that I will be recording a new batch of original songs. I have completed a few of the new tunes and will be spending much of the next couple months writing the remaining songs for this album. The other thing I can tell you is that, at least for now, we are considering the possibility of making this a live album. As I said, many of the details are still being worked out. I am so excited to be getting back into the studio to work on music that I am passionate about. God continues to reveal Himself in unique, interesting, confusing, and, sometimes, hilarious ways and I am doing my best to capture some of these "revelations" in these new songs. Anyway, there will be more about that project to come.

In the meantime I will be writing, writing and writing!!

Thank you so much for your encouragement during this transition. I want to especially thank our Village Church family and friends who have been so amazing during this time of transition. Your calls and emails have been such an encouragement to us. It is our honor to share in this journey with you. God will surely bless your faithfulness. I also want to thank the many pastors, worship leaders and concert promoters who have expressed an interest in our ministry. Thank you for believing in me. Please pray that God will continue to use the music and ministry of Second Mile even as we are in transition.

Look for more announcements and information about Second Mile along with updates on my new solo project when you visit our official websites.

Finally, Carisa and the girls, and I would like to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving. God Bless you.

Donny Henderson

long time no post!

Hey, as you have probably guessed by now, my life has dictated that I not post to my blog very often lately. This weekend was the last of the Breaking The Mold Concert Tour. We were blessed to see several people come to know Christ while we were in Florida. While I will miss doing the BTM dates, I am looking forward to focusing on <a href="http://www.secondmileonline.com/"target="_blank">Second Mile. God is moving in a fresh way in our lives and ministry right now and we look forward to sharing more with you very soon. Be sure to look for Scott on the Death By Chocolate comedy tour with Justin Fennell. These two guys have developed a great outreach ministry for local churches. We spent the rest of the night walking through some shops and dodging the rain.

There are a few pictures from the evening posted at <a href="http://www.donnyhenderson.com"target="_blank">www.donnyhenderson.com. I performed at the 4C Ranch with several Rock and Roll bands. We were there to help raise money for an organization that I have been working with for a while called Armor4Troops. Actually, this was my first event with them. I have been associated with US Vetaid who has recently partnered with Armor4Troops in this great cause. The people were wonderful and we were able to raise a lot of money. I am honored that I was asked to be a part of the first annual Freedom Fest.

We are planning several more of these concerts in the months to come and I hope you all will make plans to be a part. I was talking with the president of US Vetaid yesterday about some of the things that the media doesn't show the American people. It seems like we are only hearing the negative. I don't want to get political so I won't say anything else about that but I will share some photos that I got from the Armor4Troops.org website. I just got home from the National Quartet Convention in Louisville. I had a blast getting to meet so many new friends. I was kind of shocked at how many people were asking about Second Mile. It was encouraging. I was only in KY for a couple days but I am somehow exhausted. Ray Waters, my pastor, and his son, Ethan, went with me and we spent the day walking around the convention hall and listening to Gospel Music. I will write more about NQC later. Right now I have to go to bed because I have to get up early in the morning and head to Buckhead, GA for the Armor4Toops concert. I was in PA this weekend at Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church with the Breaking The Mold tour. The weekend started out on a bad foot when we spent 5 hours in the DC airport waiting for lost baggage. By the time we got to the hotel on Saturday night it was after midnight and our report time at church in the morning was 7am.

Scott and I ministered in the three morning services and presented a full concert in the evening service. We had a great time with the people there. After the service we got a few hours of sleep before we had to wake up to head to the airport to fly home.

I am exhausted but the trip was very rewarding. Click on the above title to view photos from the weekend or visit www.donnyhenderson.com.

Please pray for me as I will be in Pensacola this coming weekend. I will be sharing some music at Milestone Baptist Church on Sunday morning with Brother Jim Harris. On Sunday night at 6:30 I will be doing a concert at Pine Summit Baptist Church.

Thanks for your prayers. So I thought I'd write a quick note to explain. I was trying to find an easy way to get a custom T-shirt that would tell people about my brothers and their service in the military. I designed the shirt, put it in my online store and then bought it from myself. I also made one for my parents (MY SONS...). The back of the shirts has my brothers' names across the shoulders. (you can view the shirt in my online store) Anyway, that's why the shirts were originally put there. If you would like a shirt with the names of someone in your family on the back, please let me know and I will see what I can do.

One of the reasons I made the shirt is to have something cool to wear at next month's Armor4Troops concert event in Buckhead, Ga. I will be performing with several bands to help raise money for this great organization that helps provide our troops with the most up-to-date gear needed for battle. I will be telling you more aboout that event soon. Check the "Fresh Info" page at donnyhenderson.com for more information about Armor4Troops and US VetAid.

My girls' new website

I just set up a blogger page for my girls. His name is Buddy Mullins and he was singing with a group that called themselves, Mullins & Co. A few years later he joined the Gaither Vocal band and I really fell in love with his singing. A couple years ago I got to meet Buddy and his wife, Keri. We were working on a Gaither cruise and our rooms were on the same hall. During some down time one night I was able to introduce myself to Buddy and we talked for a while about music, life, marriage, etc.

Well, it was one of those great moments in the life of a young singer. I felt honored that I was blessed to get to spend some time with one of my vocal heros. Over the last couple years we have kept in touch and was thrilled to be able to call Buddy and Keri my friends.

Last month Carisa and I were on vacation and we stopped in Nashville and I had a chance to introduce her to the Mullins. We had a wonderful time and knew then that these were going to be lifelong friends.

Today Buddy and Keri were in Atlanta and stopped to see us. We had a great lunch and then came to our house and sat around the piano and sang together for a while. We shared some sweet moments of fellowship and laughter. It was a really special day for me. I got to sing (in my living room!) with Buddy Mullins. How cool is that?

Anyway, It was a great day.

Vinocity

Hey, guys. I had a really cool opportunity the other night. I was asked to sing with some great friends of mine at an Atlanta restaurant. We had a great night celebrating life, love, and family. The venue was beautiful and the people were great. A highlight of the evening for me was getting to sing with a wonderful trio, The ARH band. I also enjoyed sharing some new songs that I have been working on with my friend, Bill Turpin, along with some tunes from the current record. I thought it was pretty cool to get to sing "Come To Jesus" in that setting.

Check out the tour page on my website for several new dates. Make plans to come out and join us when we are going to be in your area. And as always tell your friends to visit the site. I have had my web guys working on a small photo gallery for my website. I want a place to post photos from my concerts along with a few family pics and other stuff. It should be up and running now. If you go to www.donnyhenderson.com and click on "EXTRAS" you will see a paragraph that will direct you to the photo gallery. There are already a few pictures there and more will be coming very soon. You can also choose from several desktop wallpapers that are posted there.

Finally, there are a few random shots from the "Better Than Before" photo shoot.

Enjoy.

Storm last night

Hey, Guys. Sorry about not having party photos up yet. I just haven't taken the time to upload them to my computer. I will do it soon.

Last night we were out to dinner with my cousins and it started raining before we were finished. By the time we were headed home there were tornado alarms going off in our town and the wind and lightning was going crazy. When we got back to my house my mom called and said that they were eating at a different place and the staff had moved everyone into the kitchen because there was a tornado. We all went down to my basement and took some movies, pillows, card table and chairs, and a flashlight and played cards until the storm passed. It was wild but it will make a nice memory.

See you soon.

Fireworks

Hey, guys. Happy July 4th. Man, did we ever shoot off some fireworks last night! Yesterday afternoon a bunch of us drove over to Alabama to pick up a few things. By the time we were done we had filled the back of the Expedition. Later that night we set up chairs for all of the family (around 20 people) up on the hill. We set up the fireworks down by the lake and had a great time lighting up the sky. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.

Today I am off to Atlanta with Carisa and the girls to meet more family for dinner at an Italian place for dinner.

See you soon. By the way, check back in a day or two because I will have posted a couple pics from the party last night.

Good day

Hey. Today Carisa and I went to my parents house and hung out with some family that was in town from Florida today. We all went to the mall to shop and see a movie. When we got back to the house we went to Carisa's grandparent's house to eat home made ice cream. It was great and my girls ate way too much. Then we went back to my parents and played Dominos for a few hours. The game is actually called Chicken Foot. If you have ever played, you know how fun it can be. It was a great day with the family.

Anyway, we just got home and are off to bed. I spent a little time today creating a brand new store. It should be up in a day or two. We are making available some official Road Crew T-shirts and hats, along with a couple other T-shirts and some children's apperal. We will add products quite often so if you don't see something you like, just wait.

We booked a couple dates today. That was a good feeling. Scott Davis and I still have a few Breaking The Mold dates left before the end of the year. If we are in your area, please come check it out. These are great concerts.

We have had quite a crazy week. My girls have been in swimming lessons everyday for the past two weeks and they graduated on Thursday. To celebrate we went to their favorite hot wings place and then we all got manicures and pedicures. I feel like a new man!

Well, I'm off to bed.
